Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of personally identifiable information contained in a student’s educational record. FERPA affords students with certain rights pertaining to their education records, such as a student’s right to access their education records, the right to have records amended, the right to have control over the disclosure of personally identifiable information, and the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education.
Directory Information
Erie County Community College considers the following as directory information:
- Student’s full name
- Address
- EC3 email address
- Student enrollment status (full- or part-time)
- Dates of attendance
- Program of study
- Degrees, certificates, and honors received
- Participation in officially recognized activities
Viewing, Restricting, or Releasing Information
Students wishing to view, restrict, or release non-directory information can contact the admissions office for assistance (see below) or follow our step-by-step guide.
